Staying in the house with the kitchen in scope means a temporary kitchen — microwave, coffee maker, portable cooktop — from demolition until cabinetry and appliances are in. Plan for roughly the full project duration, not a few days.

Almost every expensive renovation mistake reduces to opening the same wall twice. Finish a bathroom in the spring, decide in the fall to redo the kitchen on the other side of that wall, and the new plumbing runs through the bay you just tiled and painted. The second project pays to demolish the first.
Multi-room projects cost less than the same rooms done separately, and the savings are almost entirely sequencing savings — one mobilization, one permit cycle, one rough-in phase, one drywall phase, one continuous flooring run. That is also why doing rooms one at a time feels responsible and quietly costs the most.

Top-down and dirty-to-clean: structural work first, then the basement if in scope, then plumbing and electrical rough-in for every room at once, then drywall, then tile and wet areas, then flooring continuously, then cabinetry and trim, then paint, then fixtures last. The most common expensive mistake is finishing one room completely before starting the next — the second room's demolition and trade traffic then damages the finished one.
Because you need a working bathroom every day of the project. Staggering means one bathroom is finished and back in service before the next comes out. It is slower and slightly more expensive than gutting them together, and it is almost always the right trade — unless you have a bathroom outside the project scope to fall back on, in which case running them concurrently saves real money.

The dominant variable is material lead time rather than construction speed — cabinetry commonly runs 6–10 weeks — which is why selections for every room are finalized before demolition starts on any of them. Yes, and it is often smart. The key is designing and permitting the entire scope up front, completing rough-in for everything while walls are open, then finishing rooms as budget allows. Rough-in is inexpensive relative to finishes and ruinous to redo. Phasing a project that was never designed as a whole is where homeowners pay twice to open the same wall.
