3 COMPLETED PROJECTS WITH DOVETAIL GROUP

Working With Your Designer or Architect

Already hired an interior designer or architect? We build to their drawings — faithfully, with licensed trades and one schedule that holds. Major Projects. Master Craftsmanship.

Quick Answer

Yes — HomeStar regularly builds to outside interior designers' and architects' drawings across Hamilton County, Indiana. We have completed three projects in partnership with Dovetail Group, one of the premier interior design firms in the Indianapolis area, including a luxury basement in Westfield where we were brought in as one of Dovetail's preferred contractors. We review your designer's drawings before pricing, produce 3D renderings so everyone confirms the same room, execute the specified finishes and layout faithfully, and run every licensed trade in-house so the schedule holds. Your designer keeps the design credit; we build it.

Proven Partnership

Three Projects Built With Dovetail Group

This is not a claim that we are open to working with designers. It is three completed Hamilton County projects, each with a published case study crediting the design firm.

Luxury Basement Transformation — Westfield

PREFERRED CONTRACTOR

Dovetail developed the vision for this expansive lower level and brought HomeStar in as one of their preferred contractors to execute it. A 14-foot stained red oak mantle, custom bar with kegerator and porcelain brick backsplash, tongue-and-groove ceilings with faux beam wraps, theater, gym, and a full lighting package — approximately $150,000. All electrical by our licensed electrician, all bar plumbing by our licensed plumber.

Full Upper Level Remodel — Geist

An entire upper level reimagined room by room with Dovetail — the kind of multi-room scope where a designer's finish schedule has to hold consistently across bedrooms, bathrooms and hallways at once. Sequencing every trade under one contractor is what keeps a whole-floor design coherent.

Jack & Jill Bathroom Remodel — Zionsville

A shared Jack & Jill bathroom rebuilt with dual vanities and modern finishes. Smaller scope, same discipline: the designer's tile and fixture selections executed exactly, over a complete Schluter waterproofing assembly that carries a 25-year manufacturer's warranty.

How It Works

Our Collaboration Process

1

Pre-construction drawing review

Before we price anything we read the floor plans, elevations, finish schedule and fixture cut sheets, and walk the actual space against them. Anything that will not build as drawn gets flagged here — in writing, with alternatives that preserve the design intent — rather than becoming a change order in week six.

2

3D renderings as a shared language

We produce 3D renderings of the space as we intend to build it. For a designer this is the fastest way to confirm we have read the drawings correctly; for the homeowner it is the moment everyone confirms they are picturing the same room. Disagreements are cheap here and expensive after demolition.

3

One schedule across every trade

Every trade works to one calendar, with one contractor accountable for all of it — plumbing by licensed plumbers, electrical by licensed electricians. A designer's schedule survives contact with reality only if someone owns it end to end, rather than each trade arriving whenever it happens to be free.

4

Faithful execution of the specification

Specified finishes, fixtures and layouts get built as drawn. Where an item is discontinued or back-ordered we bring the substitution to the designer for approval rather than choosing one ourselves and revealing it at walkthrough.

5

Waterproofing behind the design

Every bathroom we build uses the complete Schluter system — Ditra for floors, Kerdi for walls — with a 25-year manufacturer's warranty. That sits behind the designer's tile selection, never in place of it. It is the layer nobody sees and the one that decides whether the design still looks right in a decade.

6

Public credit on the finished project

Completed collaborations are published on our project pages crediting and linking the design firm. Our three Dovetail Group projects all carry that credit.

For Designers & Architects

Looking for a Build Partner in Hamilton County?

If you are a designer or architect looking for a contractor who will build your drawings rather than quietly redesign them, the Dovetail Group relationship is the model. They develop the vision; we execute it; their client's finished space reflects their work.

We don't compete for design fees
We are a general contractor. We are not trying to sell your client design services on the side.
You get public credit
Completed projects are published crediting and linking your firm — as all three Dovetail projects are.
Licensed trades, one schedule
Plumbing by licensed plumbers, electrical by licensed electricians, and one contractor holding the schedule together.
We refer work back
When a homeowner reaches us needing design help beyond our scope, we bring in a design partner.
Portal access on your projects
You see the same selections, allowances, schedule and message thread the homeowner sees — no working blind to the build, and substitutions come to you for approval rather than surfacing at walkthrough.

We work across Fishers, Carmel, Westfield, Zionsville, Noblesville and Geist. Call (317) 279-4798 or use the form below to start a conversation about a project or an ongoing referral relationship.

FAQ

Designers, Architects & Contractors

Where This Applies

Designer-led work reaches us most often in three places. Kitchens, where cabinetry, stone and appliance integration are specified in detail and the tolerances are unforgiving. Bathrooms, where a designer's tile layout only survives if the waterproofing beneath it was built correctly. And basement finishing, where a designer is shaping a blank volume and the millwork, lighting and built-ins carry the entire result — exactly the Westfield project.

Throughout the build you and your client work from the same project portal — live phase status, selections tracked against allowances, and substitutions routed to you for approval. When a designer's scope spans several rooms at once, sequencing becomes the real constraint. See how we run whole-home and multi-room projects, or read the renovation sequencing guide for the order we build in and why.
