What the Homeowner Wanted
These Westfield homeowners had an expansive but unfinished lower level — a blank canvas with enormous potential. They wanted more than a typical finished basement; they envisioned a true destination within their home where family and friends could gather, entertain, work out, and unwind. They partnered with Dovetail Group, one of the premier interior design firms in the Indianapolis area, to develop the vision — and brought in HomeStar as one of Dovetail's preferred contractors to execute it.
How We Built It
This was a full demo and rebuild from the ground up. We installed new LVP flooring throughout for durability and a seamless, high-end look. The ceiling became a showpiece with tongue-and-groove wood and stained red oak faux beam wraps that bring warmth and architectural character to the entire space. The crown jewel is a 14-foot custom stained red oak mantle above an electric fireplace — a true statement piece. We built out a full custom bar with porcelain brick tile backsplash, a kegerator, beverage fridge, and integrated LED shelving. Wall features include "chairs and squares" wainscoting, custom bulkheads, and a black metal industrial stair railing. A complete lighting package ties it all together — pendants, sconces, and LED tape lighting throughout. The space includes dedicated zones for a games area with ping-pong, a home gym, a media/theater area, and comfortable lounge seating around the fireplace. All electrical by licensed electrician, all plumbing for the bar by licensed plumber.
