A primary bathroom in Fishers built around a white oak double vanity and a quartz countertop with soft grey veining, paired with champagne bronze fixtures throughout. The Challenge

What the Homeowner Wanted

This was the builder's original primary bath, and every surface was still the one the house came with. A corner whirlpool tub sat in a tiled deck beneath the window, taking the best light in the room and a large share of its floor. The shower was a framed enclosure with obscure glass, closed off behind a half wall and a fixed privacy panel, so the far corner read as a solid block. A long dark-stained vanity carried a one-piece cultured-marble top with integrated oval sinks under a single full-width builder mirror. Beige ceramic tile ran across the floor, up the tub deck and around the wainscot. The room had good bones, a vaulted ceiling and a wide window, working against finishes that had not aged with them.

Our Approach

How We Built It

The layout was worth keeping, so we kept it. The vanity stayed on its wall, the tub stayed in the window bay, the shower stayed in the corner. What changed was every surface in between.

The whirlpool tub and its tiled deck came out, and a freestanding soaking tub went back into the same bay on a wall-mounted filler, giving back the floor the deck had been holding. The framed enclosure and its privacy panel gave way to clear frameless glass, so the shower reads as part of the room instead of a separate box. The knee wall between the two stayed, re-clad and capped in quartz.

Inside the shower, large-format porcelain runs over the complete Schluter system with a full-width bench and two recessed niches. The pan is a hexagon mosaic, chosen for grip as much as for looks. Every waterproofing detail is Schluter, which is our standard on every bathroom rather than an upgrade.

The dark vanity was replaced in white oak under a quartz top with soft grey veining and undermount sinks. The single builder mirror became two framed mirrors, the two small fixtures became three sconces with fabric shades, the chrome went to champagne bronze, and the beige ceramic went to large-format porcelain from the floor up into a tiled wainscot.

The Result

The Finished Space

The footprint is identical and the room is unrecognisable. The vaulted ceiling and the window finally have finishes to match them, the shower is clear glass rather than an obscured corner, and the freestanding tub sits in the light it always should have had. The work carries our 1-year workmanship warranty, and the waterproofing carries Schluter's 25-year manufacturer warranty.
